Identity Theft
by chris

Many people today scam through people's trash to get their information, that is known as identity theft. Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in both Canada and the United States. When someone steals personal information and uses it to commit fraud or another crime that is identity theft. With the technology that we have today there are many ways to commit identity theft. Hackers use credit cards and social insurance numbers as a source. As the years pass we will have much more technology and that will probably make it much more easier for these hackers. These thieves can use someone's name, birth certificate, credit card number, social insurance number or other personal information to open bank accounts, get new credit cards, redirect mail, get cellphone service, rent cars or accomodation, and even to get a job according to the Consumer Measures Committee. My advice is to be really careful with all your personal information because now a days you can not trust anyone. Even people in business's commit this crime.

There are many reactions to identity theft. It can be very stressful during tax season, you have to be very careful during this time. You should use a paper shredder or burn the papers you do not need. Also do not leave your papers in any public place such as work or around your house where someone can get access to your papers. Always remember tax-season trash could be treasure to these thieves. If someone gets a hold of your personal information your life could be over.

iPhone
by tumadre

This article reviews the good and bad of the Apple iPhone. There are many great features, such as a touch screen, GPS, and iPod that make this phone impressive. The iPhone also has the the best browser ever seen on a phone yet! The iPhone has the ability to zoom in and out of pictures and scroll through long lists using multi touch. There is a huge list of reasons why to buy an iPhone, but there are also a few reasons that might stop you from buying one. The iPhone can't record video, use custom ring tones, voice dial when using a car kit, send contact info to other people, instant message, or send an SMS to more than one person at a time. David Pogue at the New York Times says, "It does so many things so well, and so pleasurably, that you tend to forgive its foibles." So is this hand held computer really worth $400?

I am really impressed by the iPhone. I think it would be more beneficial to me than it would for some. I would use the phone for music, photos, internet, and GPS. If you are using the phone for business purposes, I would suggest a different phone. There are some things on the phone that could be beneficial, but you would probably be better off with something else. I just think it's amazing how technology is advancing. It's so cool how you can basically hold a computer in your hand. I think the iPhone is a big step for technology. I can't wait to see what comes next!

copyright laws
by sampson_08

On April 13,2005 about fifteen of the best-known labels in the music industry filed lawsuits against students at the Carnegie Mellon University and 16 others from the University of Pittsburgh. They said that they got the songs off the internet strictly for research on college campuses. Among the 15 labels were Arista, Warner Brothers and Motown who filed two copyright infringement lawsuits in U.S. District Court in Pittsburgh. Virgin and Capitol records, Atlantic Recording and Sony also are part in the latest court cases by the entertainment industry. They still have not released the names of the college students who the lawsuits say downloaded songs illegally, shared them with friends or made them easy to access using high-speed that limits its access almost exclusively to some corporations. the students are now only known by their e-mail address and serial numbers given by their university. Major movie companies represented by the Motion Picture association of America sued two students from CMU for trading movies such as Disney's recent hit "National Treasure"

I think that the studios and labels are kind of over reacting because yes they downloaded them illegally but they used it for research. It would be different if they were selling it but i think that if it is for research or school work they should look past it. I know that its their job and if everyone did it where would their profit be... but I'm pretty sure that those company are pretty well off, and a huge corporation is going to sue a college student for thousands of dollars? i think that thats ridiculous.

Cell Phone Stalkers
by sedelhouser

This article informs people of new technology that enables stalkers to hack into your personal cell phone. Many families like the Kuykendalls have fallen victim to the spying and tracking on their private lives through the use of their cell phones. With the hackers open to technology that recovers resources of of the victims phone they can access pictures, text messages, and voice mails they are able to know where you are, what you are doing, and who you are with, all of this by a remote location. This invasion of privacy can be turned into an even scarier scenario when threats and messages sent to harass the victims are sent via their own phones. When first hearing of this harassment the police didn't know how to deal with this problem, they didn't even think that accessing the phone remotely was possible for hackers to do out the cell phone service provider. In these articles technology experts give advice on how to avoid being caught victim to this harassment.

When I read this article I was shocked because it is really scary to think that someone can just go through your phone and watch you with out you even knowing it. On top of that at first the police thought that they were making the whole thing up! This is defiantly something that needs to be made harder for programs and stalkers to gain access to.

Everybody knows about their life nothing is safe anymore like it should be we have to much technology. Every time we come up with something new, the criminals get smarter and smarter everyday it like we can stop them. LIMEWIRE IS BAD
by kelso

There have been lots of lawsuits where the music recording industry has tried to serve hefty fines etc. to the companies/ individuals who encourage and even facilitate the sharing of files between people. Technically the act of using Limewire is legal. However the act of sharing copyrighted music is what the authorities will prosecute for, as you are allowing other users to download something which they should pay for, for free. The act of downloading music which is being shared by other users, is illegal, however the authorities will prosecute those who are sharing a "significant amount of music" - like drugs they will go after the dealers not the users.

Using Limewire I have recently learned is a crime. It is stealing and should not be allowed. Piracy is not a cool thing and you can go to jail for it. Whether it is videos or music it is not an okay thing to do. I don't believe it should be allowed to download and in such quick of time.

Sexual Predators on the Internet
by bekka8989

Summary: Internet has redirected our lives and pretty much taken over what we do each and every day. Whether it be with work, school, or your just at home relaxing. I'm not saying the internet is not a a good thing because it really does help out a lot. But also it is a bad thing. Child molesting as been going on for a really long time. So when we got the internet everything got easier for them. With chat rooms, email, yahoo or msn messenger. They gone from watching kids at the park, stalking kids, trying to pick them up. I mean they still do that but now its much easier on the internet. Now they can go on there and get away with more things. There is this one program called Enough Is Enough(EIE) it is made for protecting kids and their families from the bad part of the Internet of sexual predators and pornography. Internet pornography has over 12 million industry right now. 12 million dollars thats a lot of money going to porn that your kids and wives, husbands or whatever could get in it. That's how much money we are supporting with that. 90% of the youth receiving the pornography are between the ages of 13-17.

Response: That's horrible how much money is going to the pornography. You could be supporting your kids that are 13 through 17. I'm sorry but I would not want my 13 year old kid watching porns or being involved in those kind of matters. People say parents need to be more observant which is true. Watch what your kids do on the internet go back and look at the history on your computer. STOP it now before it gets out of hand and something happens that you can't stop from happening.Being a parent means having responsibly and taken control.Be a role model for your child. So really just be a PARENT!

Credit card hackers
by laura

Credit card hacking as become a big thing in our society today. At least 45.7 million credit and debit card numbers have been stolen this year. Hackers hack into main store computers and steal the data of the credit cards allowing them to make use of the cards. Restaurants are at the highest risk where your personal information can be taken from. Many people don't know its against the law for any credit card machine to print more then five digits of anyones credit card number or the cards expiration date on receipts, even the one kept by the store.
It's a scary thing to think it is so easy for someone to steal your credit card number. It makes you weary on charging things. Remember the time when plastic was safer then cash because of robbery. But now you have to worry about hackers getting your credit cards. Stores are taking higher security actions toward this crisis, but the risks are still high.

Why Use Bluetooth?
by jackson_13

Bluetooth wireless technology is a short-range communications technology that replaces the cables connecting portable devices and fixed devices while keeping high levels of security. The big features of Bluetooth technology are easiness, little battery power, and low cost. The Bluetooth specification defines a uniform structure for a wide range of devices to connect and communicate with each other. Bluetooth wireless technology is the simple choice for convenient, wire-free, short-range communication between devices. It is a globally available standard that wirelessly connects mobile phones, portable computers, cars, stereo headsets, MP3 players, and more. Thanks to the unique concept of "profiles," Bluetooth enabled products do not need to install driver software. The technology is now available in its fourth version of the specification and continues to develop, building on its inherent strengths — small-form factor radio, low power, low cost, built-in security, ease-of-use, and ad hoc networking abilities. Bluetooth wireless technology is the leading and only proven short-range wireless technology on the market today with an installed base of over 1 billion units at the end of 2006.

Here is the range specifications
The operating range depends on the device class:

* Class 3 radios – have a range of up to 1 meter or 3 feet
* Class 2 radios – used mainly in cell phones - have a range of 10 meters or 30 feet
* Class 1 radios – used primarily in industrial use cases – have a range of 100 meters or 300 feet

Bluetooth products:
* Printers
* Cell Phone Accessories
* Bluetooth Headsets
* Headsets & Microphones

* MP3 Player Accessories
* Miscellaneous
* Bluetooth Pencil

Reaction: I think that bluetooth is a better and higher piece of technology that will be used for a very long time, it is easy to use, and has no wires attached, so its portable and convenient!
